In a former paper [1] it has been shown that Lewis acidity of zeolites can be studied by C-13 NMR spectroscopy of adsorbed carbon monoxide. Although CO molecules adsorbed on Lewis acid sites exhibit an extremely large chemical shift relative to gaseous CO, the value of this shift could be determined only with a relatively large error, since the CO adsorbed on Lewis acid sites exchanges at room temperature with physisorbed CO and CO adsorbed on Bronsted acid sites. In the present paper the method of selective saturation has been used to determine the chemical shift of CO adsorbed on Lewis acid sites. For a deep-bed treated zeolite H-ZSM-5 a value of 590 +/- 60 ppm relative to gaseous CO has been found.
