1. 1. The two-phase mechanical response occuring within the retractor muscle of the lantern of Echinus esculentus was shown to be due to neural interaction and not to dual innervation. 2. 2. Excitation within individual muscle fibrils was shown to be transmitted via action potentials with a conduction velocity of approximately 4 cm/sec. © 1968.
