摘要
Kirkwood's instability incorrectly predicts a phase transition for hard rods. A reinterpretation, considering a uniform fluid perturbed by a small external force, in the absence of a phase transition is attempted, but is unsuccessful. In some cases, the perturbation results in a mechanically more stable system.
