摘要
Thoracic pain mimicking musculoskeletal disorders is sometimes related to visceral diseases12 such as gastroduodenal ulcer, pancreatitis, or aortic dissection. Inversely, abdominal or flank pain10 may be due to rib or spine disorders. Cyriax’s syndrome6 and slipping rib syndrome11, 23 are related to an anterior chondrocostal lesion of the floating ribs, responsible for abdominal pain.23 Twelfth rib syndrome, as described by Machin and Shennan, 13 consists of intercostal neuralgia associated with disease of the 11th or 12th rib. Spine tumors also may be revealed by such referred pain.20 The referral pattern of costovertebral (CV) arthropathies has been emphasized by Goldthwait, 9 Nathan et al, 16 Weinberg et al, 22 and Maigne.14 This referral pattern misleads clinicians, 18 so that extensive visceral work-ups such as intravenous pyelography, ultrasonography, tomodensitometry, and angiography are performed in these patients.1, 14 Undue surgicalprocedures still were performed in some cases for example, on the kidney. © 1993, J.B.
