INSITU MEASUREMENT OF SILICA-GEL COATING ON PARTICLES OF ALUMINA

摘要
Time‐dependent growth of a silica layer on alumina particles suspended in a polymeric silica solution has been measured by monitoring the changes in the zeta potential of the alumina particles. There is an incubation period in the process, suggesting that the silica film forms by a nucleation‐and‐growth mechanism. The coated alumina particles are found to flocculate as their zeta potential approaches that of silica near its isoelectric point. Copyright © 1990, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
