THE ORIGIN OF THE HIGH ELASTIC-MODULUS IN AL-LI ALLOYS

摘要
It has been known for years that Al-Li solid solution alloys have significantly higher elastic moduli than pure aluminium (e. g. a 10. 5 at. % (3 wt%) addition of lithium to aluminium increases the specific modulus by some 30%). This combined with its low density has led to interest for aerospace applications. As Al-Li solid solutions have a small atomic radius difference, the origin of this increase must be electronic. The object of this work is to show how these electronic effects can be detected and to discuss the possible reasons for them.
