A consensus-development meeting on “Steroid Receptors in Breast Cancer” was held at the National Institutes of Health on June 27–29. The purpose of this meeting, which was attended by about 400 investigators from the United States and nine foreign countries, was to review and discuss current information on the clinical uses of steroid-receptor measurements in breast-cancer tissue. The conference included 50 formal presentations and discussions and concluded with a round-table discussion on the impact of receptor assays on the management of the patient with breast cancer.
