CHROMOSOME PAIRING IN POLYPLOID CELLS

A mixture of paired and unpaired chromosomes was the predominant configuration of homologues in air-dried suspensions of polyploid metaphases from both amnion and leukocyte cultures. The relatively normal frequency distributions of the homologue pairings were interpreted as evidence for a continuous population of polyploids in cultured tissues, from diplochromosomes through variable degrees of pairing to “randomly positioned” chromosomes. © 1969, Japan Mendel Society, International Society of Cytology.
