Production of biogas from fresh water hyacinth in the form of slurry was studied in a semi-continuous mode of operation by anaerobic digestion. Data were analysed using the Chen and Hashimoto model. Kinetic constants mu(m) and K were determined and found to be, on average, 0.125 day(-1) and 0.355 g l(-1) respectively. Computed values of gas productivity fitted well with the observed values. Productivity increased with loading rate. Reaction rate decreased with retention time. The minimum substrate concentration remaining undigested increased with influent feed concentration.
