ANALYSIS OF BIOMASS PYROLYSIS LIQUIDS - SEPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF PHENOLS

摘要
The liquid products derived from biomass (fir wood) pyrolysis were separated by silica gel open-column chromatography. A fraction rich in ortho- and non-ortho-substituted alkylarylphenols was isolated. This fraction was characterized by thin-layer chromatography and gas chromatography and was identified by IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy and was subjected to gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis. About 12-17% (w/w) of the pyrolysis liquid products consisted of phenols, and the fraction rich in phenols contained phenol and other substituted phenols (85-95%, w/w). Aryl ethers can be produced by catalytic alkylation of the phenolic compounds.
