TIME DECAY AND FLUORESCENCE QUENCHING IN A ONE-DIMENSIONAL LATTICE

Exact solutions are obtained for the time decay of the donor fluorescence survival fraction in one-dimensional lattices with regularly and randomly distributed acceptor molecules which constitute deep energy traps. The decay is studied for various ratios k(DA)/k(DD), the rate constants of energy transfer from donor to acceptor and between donor molecules. It is shown, that in the particular case k(DA)/k(DD)=1 the relation obtained for random distribution becomes identical with the one given earlier by Movaghar et al. Also presented are exact expressions for the quantum yield and the mean lifetime of fluorescence as well as the average number of energy transfers in lattices both with regular and random distributions of traps.
