Retrograde condensation of a second, heavier, liquid phase in the presence of a light liquid phase is reported in the ternary system ethane + propane + eicosane in a pressure-temperature window of 0.03 MPa and 0.1 K. As far as we know this is the first time that this phenomenon is observed and recognized as such for a simple mixture, although evidence for this phenomenon is present in at least one or two more systems studied in literature. It confirms earlier reports on this behavior in gas condensate systems. Results will be discussed and a short thermodynamic analysis will be given.
