摘要
Although knee joint replacements have been commercially available since 1971, attention is just now being directed to those mechanical factors which contribute to prosthetic failure. Previous investigators have called attention to repetitive impaction of the tibial component by the distal femur and the ″loosening moment″ as being important in the production of loosening. This report describes prosthetic obliquity and calculates the shear load developed by angular tibial prosthetic placement. It is shown that this load can approach the body weight of the patient during normal activity of daily living.
