Flow cell HPLC/FT-IR is especially well suited to absorbance subtraction techniques, because the dilute solutions in constant solvents which are measured eliminate bulk (matrix) effects on subtraction, and because FT-IR allows accurate photometric data to be measured on an extremely precise wavenumber abcissa. Given as practical examples of subtractive applications are the spectroscopic completion of a chromatographically incomplete separation and the critical analysis of a silicone polymer composition versus molecular weight. © 1979, Oxford University Press.
