A report on electrically switchable Bragg gratings that offers a flexible approach to condition and manipulate light in unique ways is presented. Holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (HPDLC) is used to describe the underlying composite material created by the periodic distribution of liquid crystal and polymer in stratified layers. HPDLC films are vertically stacked for display and image-capture systems, and transmission-mode films are also integrated to create a rapid beam-steering device.
