Micropipet experiments were used to study membrane tension and osmotic pressure effects in biological membranes. The membrane tension was derived as a function of the areal strain for membranes containing a nonequilibrium noise source. The expressions keeps track of the coupling of the density of active centers and the membrane curvature.
