Researchers at the Technische Universität Dresden, in Germany, created a textile sheet that may serve as an alternative to steel in reinforced concrete. The textile is stronger than steel but is not susceptible to corrosion. It is composed of tiny glass or carbon filaments 15 μm in diameter. In contrast to steel, the thin sheet does not require corrosion protection, which means that less concrete can be used.
