The development of various electric vehicles (EV) for environmental protection and energy conservation, is discussed. The vehicles are using advanced induction motors drives and permanent-magnet brushless motor drives to improve the electric propulsion system, and low rolling resistance tires to reduce running resistance at low and medium driving speed. The design approach of modern EV should include state-of-the-art technologies from automobile engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and chemical engineering. The fuel cell electric vehicles (FECV) will have long term potential to be the mainstream vehicle of the future because of almost nonexistent emission and a driving range comparable to an internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV).
