摘要
Bubble columns are widely used in chemical and biotechnological process industries. Yet selecting material of practical use is rather difficult. To overcome this problem, in this review, attempts are made to extract formulae and guidelines as simply as possible on the basis of currently available material. The starting point is the mechanisms occurring in bubble columns, i. e. bubble formation, bubble rise and resulting circulation patterns. Once these phenomena are understood, mixing and heat and mass transfer are much easier to deal with. Bubble formation is largely dependent on the sparger type, which can be divided into three groups: single orifices, porous discs and two-phase injectors.
