During the last decades the interest in the study of rock glaciers has been markedly increased, but knowledge of them is still extremely incomplete regarding the rheology, the relation to ice glaciers, the mass balance, etc. A survey conducted during the past years in the Swiss Alps is described that makes it possible to estimate the amount of talus on the move in active rock glaciers. The processes and nature of this transport are discussed first, before estimating the amount of material actually involved in rock glacier talus transport systems.
