Presented is an overview of infections and thrombosis in artificial organs based on selective review of abstracts. The understanding and prevention of thrombosis and infections with artificial organs made significant progress. In the future, these advances will enable both implanted and temporary prosthetic cardiovascular devices to occupy an increasing role in clinical medicine.
