摘要:
Joint laxity is recognized as a cause of rheumatic symptoms and an almost certain cause of premature osteoarthrosis. More information is required on the normal distribution of laxity in populations but studies have been hampered by the lack of simple reproducible techniques for the quantification of joint laxity. A simple spring device that applied a predetermined force to the fifth metacarpo-phalangeal joint had good reproducibility but only quantified movement at this joint to the nearest 30 degree . The authors have therefore constructed a slipping clutch finger extensometer for the metacarpo-phalangeal (MCP) joint of the index finger. Their requirements were that this machine could be used for either hand on individuals demonstrating a wide range of joint laxity. It had to be reproducible, sensitive and pain free.
