摘要
Silicate glasses are being considered as media for long-term storage of radioactive wastes. This work constitutes part of a more extensive study of actinide-bearing silicate glasses. It presents extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) studies of sodium silicate glasses containing dissolved hexavalent uranium. The U**6** plus ions appear in the uranyl configuration with significant clustering and with a substantial amount of local atomic order in the vicinity of the uranium site. A layered model is proposed to describe these glasses.
