To explore new incentive field of nanometer structure electronics;
special project research programs on nanometer structure electronics started in 1982 with a financial support from the Ministry of Education;
Science and Culture[7]. The project is divided into five main subjects. These are i) study on quantum mechanical effect and electronic process in nanometer structures such as one or two dimensional conduction and quantum effect;
2) crystal growth and development of new devices with nanometer structure;
3) material processing for nanometer structure;
4) nanometer fabrication technology;
and 5) applications of nanometer electronics to various fields;
not only to ultra high density and high speed electronics but also to medical and biological fields;
