Nitric oxide bound to ferrous heme-Fe of Hb is a powerful relaxation probe in the solvent-PMR experiments. When such an experiment was applied to the interaction of human Hb with inositol hexaphosphate, it showed that phosphate increased the solvent-dynamics in the heme-pockets, consistent with their widening. Implications were discussed.
