This paper discussied the 240 house ruins excavated at Didiwan site,Qin'an,Gansu.The houses,lasting for about 3000 years and date 7800_4800 BP,were classified into the 1 st to the 5 th period.Their developent were displayed by the form,size,structure,floor,the position of cooking stove and the building method etc.One can find a stable trodition and charecteristics in these houses:mostly square or rectagular,the distributon stresses axi-symitry,the framework were made of the main posts within room and the small posts within the side walls which mainly shoulder the tasks of enclose and seperation.The houses,categeried into big,middle and small,were believed to be the chief,leader of a big family and common members of the site according to their position,inner structure and the utensils.In addition,through a comparison of the neolithic cultures between the up-middle reaches and the lower reaches of the Wei river,the paper regarded that the disparity between the two regions was getting big and the local charecteristics was more obvious as time passing.
