意大利哲学家阿甘本思想体系中的核心概念Homo Sacer已经成为当代西方大陆哲学研究者和文化理论研究者的讨论焦点,其本义的含混矛盾之处给研究者造成了困扰。Homo Sacer既可以被理解为"神圣的人",又可以被理解为"被排斥、被诅咒的人",这种矛盾使理解homo sacer变得十分困难;阿甘本通过引入卡尔·施密特和阿兰·巴丢的学说,指出Homo Sacer成为主权权力本身独特的呈现方式,化身为律法和生命的双重例外状态,从而在哲学层面解释了Homo Sacer出现矛盾含义的根本原因;阿甘本通过对西方历史中homo sacer生成谱系的分析,指出由于西方社会的发展变化,Homo Sacer从罗马法中的边缘概念逐步转化为对现代西方主权权力运行机制最有解释力的概念。
