The distribution of selenium\|containing proteins in the subcellular fractions of human liver components was treated by sodium dodecyl sulfate\|polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS\|PAGE) and hydride generation\|atomic fluorescence spectrophotometry (HG\|AFS). About 24 kinds of Se\|containing proteins or protein subunits were found in subcellular fractions. Their molecular weights were mostly ranged from 20 to 30 kD and from 50 to 80 kD. Among them, about 61 kD and 21 kD Se\|containing proteins existed in each fraction with higher concentration. The 54 kD Se\|containing protein existed in nuclei, mitochondria, microsome and cytosol. The specific subcellular distributions of Se\|containing proteins suggest that Se could play specific important biological roles in each organelle.
