The classroom is the main place where students communicate with each other and with their teacher build up their language skills This paper discusses the principles of the Learner Centered Topic Based Approach,a new classroom teaching model,consistent with the newly revised National College English Syllabus In a class where this new approach is adopted,reading,listening,speaking,writing and translating skills are integrated by fulfilling a variety of class activities devised in New College English,a newly compiled textbook that embodies the principles of the new model Importance is attached to the students’ needs in language knowledge and use,in their personal emotion and in their intelligence Under the guidance of their teacher,students are fully involved in class activities to develop their communicative competence
