Merleau-Ponty accomplished the conceptual transformation from the objective body to the phenomenal body in Phenomenology of Perception.He thought that the result of classical physiology and psychology had decisively refuted the concept of objective body,and led them to the phenomenal body as appeared within the primordial perceptual experience.Phenomenal body is the primordial synthesis of a series of dualistic distinctions such as in itself and for itself,physiological and psychological.It can be mainly characterized by its ambiguity,intentionality,subjectivity and worldliness.It founds for the first time the theoretical possibility of the unity of body and mind and represents his important contribution to the phenomenology of body.
