This paper tries to discuss the problem of Shame under the background of experiences of Chinese culture with the method of phenomenological analysis. It includes the following points: (1)to analyze our experiences of moral shame phenomenologically, presenting the relationship between self’s mind and body, between self and others contained in these experiences. (2)The phenomenon of shame is divided into different types here, and consequently can be given a rudimentary depiction of structural relationship between their constituent elements. (3)Contrary to usual mental modes in overcoming shame, we probe into the moral personalities presented by some reactive examples. (4)Try to reconstruct Confucian view of shame, emphasizing their internal connections with a classic Confucian gentleman’s personality of Self-interest and Self-respect. (5)To analyze the essential causes that have undermined our traditional conception of shame in modern society.
