<正> 自50年代以来当信息专业人员认识到科学方法在试验中应用的必要时,研究人员面临着控制的、实验设计的、变数的、取样的及其他的问题,通过试验与评价已经取得许多知识。信息(情报)检索系统的评价与理论有大量的文献,读者可查询英文《信息科技年度评论》(ARST)定期出现的评论文章,Sparck-Jones的《信息检索试验》(1981)、维克利夫妇的的《信息科学理论与实践》(1987)对于信息检索的评价试验也有全面的评述。
