随着旅游全球化趋势的增强,边缘地区越来越被整合到整个世界旅游体系中。边缘地区的原野性和未被破坏的自然环境符合了旅游者对"基于自然的旅游"的需求。边缘地区往往想通过发展旅游,改变落后的现状,但边缘地区的若干先天不足则构成制约条件,限制其可持续发展。边缘发展旅游面临的问题是什么?会产生哪些经济、社会、环境影响?能否缩小区域差异?是否已有一些成熟的经验?针对以上问题,本文对国外边缘旅游的概念、特征、发展的主题、存在的问题以及实现可持续发展的成熟经验进行了回顾,以期对我国旅游发展,特别是中、西部地区旅游的可持续发展有所启示。
