摘要：

This article introduces Emile Durkheim's life and his academic legacy,especially his sociocentrism substantiated by his four monographs.It is the observation of this article that the reintroduction of Durkheim to China today has the relevance as following:First,tha stage of China's current social transformation is similar to the days when Durkheim was academically active,i.e. when France and Western Europe were experiencing the Second Industrial Revolution.Secondly,Durkheim's exposition of the hegemony of society over individuals has stimulated the postmodern scholars including Michael Foucault and Peter Bourdeau to their vigorous debunking of the discourses of rationality and society advocated by the Enlightenment Philosophers.
