This paper argues that the Erligang Culture was a mixture of the Erlitou - type Culture, the Zhanghe - type Culture and the special Erligang features. The Erliang Cul-ture was a development of the Pre - Shang Culture and the Pre - Shang Culture and the Lower Erligang Culture represented the same Shang culture before and after the collapse of the Xia Dynasty and they had little difference in nature. It further argues that the formation of the Erligang culture began in Shangqiu district, thus Shangqiu remains and important area in exploring the Pre - Shang Culture.
