The overwhelming body of evidence suggests that atherosclerosis is a multifactorial inflammatory disease resulting from interaction between modified lipoprotein, monocyte derived macrophages, T cells, and the normal cellular elements of the arterial walls. There is a significant association between some pathgens and atherosclerosis, probably by inducing the production of some chemokines which can attract leukocytes and are thought to be central in modulating inflammation. In this article, we will review the association between some pathgens and atherosclerosis and the role of chemokines in the initiating and advancing of atherosclerosis.
