The ophiolite belt along the S.E. margin of the Yangtze craton(or platform), South China is commonly considered to be formed during the Sibao-Xuefeng orogenic cycle and interpreted to represent a Proterozoic suture or subduction zone. In contrast, Hsu et al. recently argued that this ophiolite belt represented a melange which was overthrust onto a foreland thrust belt during Mesozoic.
