Based on change and development of gold industry in the 20th century, this paper made a prediction for the gold industry in the new century. It is pointed out that the gold rush arisen in 80’s last century has been gradually changing by 90’s,and continuing towards the new century. The paper analyzed this change in world wide gold industry,and brought forward that restructure of the gold industry has began. The paper stresses that China is also impacted by this wave of changing international environment.The fundamental change of China’s gold industry industry in the new century is that con-formable alteration to international trends has been shown in the development environment of the Chinese gold industry. It is displayed in following forms:the trend of non-monetization of gold is increasing,coming back with its properties as a normal commodity; government policy orientation is shifting from strict control over gold products to market refrom;the development mode of gold industry turns to open from enclosed; and government policy policy for gold industry development is altering from favour and support dominant to fare competition dominant Twenty century is an era full of chances and challenges for gold industry, the paper believes. Under the pressure of low price, ability of cost control is a vital factor that matters the surviving and development of gold enterprise. With gold market opening, millions of individuals will become its direct consumers. As competition intensifying, it is inevitable to tight against those strong international competitors. The paper puts forward that following three changes are necessary to improve and further develop China’s gold industry in the new century. They are. 1. Change of development strategy of an enterprise from external enforcement to enterpris self-motivation; 1. Change of running philosophy from production to quality and profit;and profit; and 3. Changes of management from adminis-trative instruction to competitive self-discipline.
