The Enlightenment is the intellectual context of the genesis and is becoming of Hegel's thought.The paradox of the Enlightenment takes us to the heart of Hegel's philosophical enterprise.Hegel's true philosophy differentiates itself from the Enlightenment precisely in its attempt to construct,in the dimension of thought,the wholeness of life that the Enlightenment has undermined.In order to accomplish this task,Hegel shows us that the isolated self of the Enlightenment is untenable theoretically and practically,and that utility is the principle of the Enlightenment.The phenomena revealed by Hegel are indeed of modernity.For this reason,Hegel's critique of the Enlightenment is still relevant to us today.
