Because of their special roles, we will have to concern ourselves with women's federations if we want to concern ourselves with the development trends of Chinese women's movement and Chinese women's destiny. Since the 1980s, women's federations in China have had to face the' challenges of reform from both internal and external sources. The internal challenge has been from inherent structural contradictions, such as the problem of organizational system, the problem of role positioning and that of the weakening of the stratified control mechanism within the system itself. The external challenge has been from the problem of the group positioning of women's federations, the problem of the mode of operation and that of the multi - polarity tendency of the conceptual system. Under the pressure of these challenges, the internal cybernation and the change of the operation mode within the women's federations a2re inevitable
