To the Editor: In the study of edoxaban versus warfarin, the Hokusai-VTE Investigators (Oct. 10 issue)(1) found a significant decrease in the incidence of clinically relevant bleeding in the edoxaban group and a similar (though somewhat lower) incidence of major bleeding, as compared with that in the warfarin group. The definition of major bleeding a requirement for transfusion of 2 or more units of blood or a decrease in hemoglobin of 2 g per deciliter or more is similar to the definition used in most of the studies comparing the new anti-Xa or antithrombin agents with warfarin.
