The IEEE's refusal to assist engineers who practice their profession according to the IEEE ethics code, and to accept voluntary contributions from members to a fund for engineers whose careers are jeopardized by the ethics code, are direct contradictions to the intent expressed by the IEEE Board of Directors. The expressed justifications for blocking these efforts to support engineering ethics seem to have no reasonable foundations in either fact or law. A further concern for members is the behavior of the Executive Committee in squelching proper discussion in the issues and in rejecting and then suppressing the report of its own blue ribbon committee.
