摘要
We describe two novel, dynamic probes of fracture, wear, and deformation during tribological loading that provide insight into energy dissipation mechanisms associated with fracture, flow, and adhesive detachment. These include applications of particle emission (fracto-emission) measurements and transient current measurements to the abrasive wear of insulating substrates. We illustrate the use of these probes during abrasive wear on single-crystal MgO by diamond and tungsten carbide. We also describe the signals produced when an oxidized aluminum tip is drawn across polymer substrates coated with perfluoropolyether lubricants.
