Synthesis and characterization of hierarchical porous gold materials

Synthesis and characterization of ultra low density gold monoliths with multimodal pore structure were discussed. The hierarchical porous gold materials were prepared by templated hollow silver/gold shells, which can be dealloyed. A core-shell approach was also adopted to prepare the hollow silver/gold shells as synthetic routes to prepare gold-coated silica and polystyrene were developed. The casting procedure was similar to slip-casting of ceramic and metal particles in which suspension of PS/Au particles were placed in a plaster of paris mold and allowed to settle. The results show that the sequence of metal deposition is remarkable as depositing gold on silver may result in competing Ag0/Au3+ galvanic and electroless deposition reduction reaction.
