(Chemical Equation Presented) Lookin' for Gals: Treatment of a glycoprotein with β-galactosidase releases terminal galactose (Gal) that is captured on hydroxylaminated glass beads. The novel red fluorescent reagent TMR-B binds to the immobilized Gal rendering the beads bright red with the color intensity in proportion to the amount of captured Gal. Gln: GlcNAc, M: Man, SA: sialic acid, TMR: tetramethylrhodamine. © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
