摘要：

The use of operations research for the econometric modeling of crime and the criminal justice system was discussed. The research on criminal careers and its relation to incapaciation was influential in determining directions for subsequent research in the field of crime modeling. Organizations such as the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) were responsible for balancing between the technical research side and the ideological policy side of criminal justice systems.
