Comparison of surface properties of beech- and oakwood as determined by ESCA method

摘要
The adhesive properties of two domestic hardwood species beechwood and oakwood have been estimated by analyzing the surface chemical composition determined by ESCA (XPS). The estimated reactivity of wood, based on the occurrence of certain types of carbon bonds that corresponds to specific wood components, was proved by wetting measurements and the determination of adhesion expressed as the pull-off strength of polyurethane coating. Beechwood showed better adhesive properties than oakwood.
