Phase transition, molecular motions, and inequivalent carbon atoms in K3C60 (111) single-phase ordered films

High-resolution synchrotron radiation photoemission and absorption spectroscopies from the C 1 s core level were used to investigate a K3C60 (111) single-phase ordered film as a function of temperature. It is shown that the gradual slowing down of the molecular motions modifies the line shape of the C 1 s core level. Below 200 K the core-level data clearly reveal the presence of several chemically shifted components. A model based on the inhomogeneity of the conduction electron distribution at the molecular level is proposed asa possible explanation for the observed temperature behavior. [S0163-1829(99)07423-8].
