Quantum interference-enhanced spontaneous emission and population oscillation in photonic crystals

摘要
In this paper. the spontaneous emission from a three-level atom embedded in a photonic band gap structure is studied. The quantum interference between two decay processes affects the atomic splitting of the upper levels into dressed states and leads to some novel behavior of the populations in the excited states: anti-trapping, periodic oscillation, and no population inversion. These properties strongly depend on the relative positions of the two upper levels from the forbidden gap and differ from that of the two-level atom in a photonic crystal.
