This is a review of the electrophysiologic changes occurring at different times following myocardial infarction, both in the infarcted region (substrate) and in areas remote from the infarct. Regulators of channel function which might contribute to re-modeling, including autocrine/paracrine factors involved in ion channel gene regulation, are discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
